Gay-friendly Eureka Springs
Eureka Springs is a small Southern town, but one where Pride flags outnumber Confederate ones.
It’s been called “the gayest small town in America” by The Advocate, “a gay vacation paradise” by OutSmart, and “the Bible Belt’s LGBTQ oasis” by CNN. It’s prominently featured in National Geographic’s “LGBTQIA+ (and friendly) travel guide” Out in the World.
Around a quarter of the town’s population are same-sex couples. So many of the city’s shops, restaurants, lodging, and nightlife spots are LGBTQ-owned that there’s no point in listing them. Throw a rock; you’ll hit one.
The Gospel of Eureka, a delightfully offbeat documentary, spotlighted the town’s unusual mix of drag queens and conservative Christians.
Four annual events cater to LGBTQ tourists: spring, summer, and fall Diversity Weekends, plus a cusp-of-summer Pride festival. Any given weekend, you can catch a drag performance at Eureka Live, and often elsewhere.
For upcoming events, follow two active Facebook groups, LGBTQ+ of Eureka Springs and Eureka Pride.
